Our RM goal is to improve the quality and reduce the quantity of our practices’ referrals to secondary care. We do this by focusing on peer-reviewed, best-practice referral guidelines, as well as openness and transparency on referral behaviour. We have, in close collaboration with specialists and GPs, defined best-practice pathways that are more vertically integrated for a number of specialties including Urology, Gynae and Orthopaedics. These pathways act as guidelines to our primary care clinicians at the point of referral. All our referrals are looked at within 48 hours and counter-signed by another doctor. Our Referral Tracker records all information which gives us live visibility over our practices’ behaviour. On a monthly basis practice-practice and GP-GP referral patterns are transparently reported to all and in-depth peer-peer discussions take place to see how, if necessary, behaviour can change.
